# Terrain To OBJ

[**Terrain To OBJ**](https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/terrain/terrain-to-obj-170663?aid=1011lvgVb) is a Unity editor tool that converts built-in terrains ([TerrainData](https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/TerrainData.html) object) into **OBJ** format mesh files. It offers full control over vertex density, allowing to fine-tune performance for mobile, VR, or large-scale projects. Generate files can be imported into any 3D modeling software for manually editing or other use.

Alongside its editor tools, **Terrain To OBJ** also provides a complete runtime API with identical functionality, enabling dynamic terrain-to-mesh conversions during gameplay or procedural scene generation.

#### Key features:

* **Ultra-fast conversion** — Instantly transform terrains into OBJ format meshes.
* **Full vertex control** — Precisely adjust mesh resolution for any performance target.
* **Mesh split system** — Seamlessly handle large terrains by splitting them into manageable mesh chunks.
* **Runtime API included** — Perform the same conversions dynamically during gameplay.

#### Limitations:

* Tool exports only mesh data, without materials and textures.
* Tree, grass and detail objects are not exported.
* Generated mesh has no holes.
